Best Calorie Tracker App in French (2026): 9 Apps Compared on Real French Support

Key takeaways

  • 6 of the 9 apps declare French on the French App Store: Yazio, Foodvisor, FatSecret, MyFitnessPal, Lose It! and Cal AI. Callie ships a French interface although its listing shows English. Cronometer's listing declares English only, and Fitia was not on the French store.
  • Callie has a French interface, an AI coach that replies in French and photo, voice or text logging with a review screen before anything is saved, for €39.99 a year.
  • Yazio is often cheaper in euros. Its 12-month plans on the French App Store ranged from €11.90 to €59.90 on October 9, 2026, and it lists more than 4 million foods with a barcode scanner.
  • Foodvisor is the Paris-built option. It logs by photo, voice, text and barcode and syncs with Apple Health, so it is the closest like-for-like alternative to Callie for French users.
  • None of the 9 listings says its database uses ANSES's Ciqual table, the free French reference of 3,484 foods. For French home cooking, photo logging with a correction step is often more reliable than text search.

Callie is our app, and it is one of the nine compared here. We checked every other app's French App Store listing ourselves on October 9, 2026, and each one gets the category it is best at.

The 30-second answer

The best calorie tracker app in French for most people is Callie: AI Calorie Tracker, at €39.99 a year. Its interface is in French, its AI coach replies in French, and it logs by photo, voice or text with a review screen before anything is saved. If you want the lowest euro price and a large packaged-food database, pick Yazio, which is often cheaper than Callie. If you want a French-built app with photo and voice logging, pick Foodvisor. If you want to start without paying and use a French food site, pick FatSecret.

What "works in French" should mean

An app can list French and still feel American once you start logging. We judged each app on four things:

  1. Interface language. Is French declared on the French App Store listing (the languageCodesISO2A field in Apple's lookup API, French storefront)?
  2. French and European food. Can it handle a croque-monsieur, a blanquette, a supermarket yaourt or a bakery pain au chocolat, and does the barcode scanner know French products?
  3. French input and coaching. Can you type or say "une assiette de lentilles aux saucisses" and get a sensible entry, and does any coach answer in French?
  4. Euro pricing. What does the annual plan cost on the French App Store?

The French reference for food composition is ANSES's Ciqual table, which covers 3,484 foods "representative of those consumed in France" and is free to use (ANSES). None of the nine App Store listings we read says its database is built on it, so treat any "French database" claim as the app's own.

Callie is the exception on interface language. Its App Store listing currently declares English only, although the app itself ships a French interface. That is a gap in our listing, and we would rather you hear it from us.

The apps, one by one

1. Callie: best for AI logging you check first, with a coach in French

Callie's interface is available in six languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Arabic and Japanese. The AI coach replies in French, and it will also answer in any other language you write in. You can log by photo, voice or text. Photo scans are never logged automatically: you see the foods, portions, calories and macros on an edit screen and fix them before saving. That matters for a gratin or a plat en sauce, where the cream and butter are hidden.

Callie also re-tunes your calorie target every 2 weeks from your weight trend, builds a daily diet plan matched to your BMI and keeps a streak dashboard where planned cheat days don't break the streak.

What we don't do well: our food database is smaller than Yazio's or MyFitnessPal's, our App Store listing doesn't yet declare French, and the barcode scanner is paid after the 3 trial logs. In our own 20-meal test against a kitchen scale, Callie averaged 13% error and Cal AI 17% (method).

Price: free download with 3 AI logs to try it, then €39.99 a year, €17.99 a month or €5.99 a week.

2. Yazio: best value in euros and a large food database

Yazio is a German company based in Erfurt (Yazio), and its French listing describes more than 4 million foods, a barcode scanner, photo tracking, more than 20 fasting methods and more than 2,900 recipes. On October 9, 2026 its 12-month plans on the French App Store ranged from €11.90 to €59.90. Several of those are below Callie's €39.99, so if price is your first filter, Yazio usually wins. We couldn't find voice logging or an AI coach on the listing. Our Callie vs Yazio page goes into more detail.

3. Foodvisor: best French-built photo app

Foodvisor was created in 2015 and is based in Paris, where it grew out of the Station F campus (Station F). Its French listing covers photo recognition, voice logging, quick text search, barcode scanning and Apple Health sync, plus a nutrition programme designed by nutrition experts in Premium. It is the closest like-for-like alternative to Callie for French users. Its French purchase list shows Premium items from €11.99 to €59.99 without clear billing periods, so check the annual price in the app.

4. FatSecret: best for starting without paying

FatSecret's French listing says the app is free, with image recognition, a barcode scanner, Apple Health sync and dietitian-built meal plans in Premium. It runs a dedicated French site, fatsecret.fr, which its listing links for its terms. Annual Premium was listed at €35.00 and €53.90. There is no AI coach on the listing.

5. MyFitnessPal: best for the biggest community, if you pay for Premium

MyFitnessPal declares French among 19 languages. Barcode scanning, Meal Scan and voice logging are Premium features, and annual Premium was listed at €49.99 and €87.99 on the French store. Its database leans towards US packaged and restaurant food. Francisco Partners, which owns MyFitnessPal, also owns Cal AI.

6. Lose It!: best for a large international food library

Lose It! declares 8 languages including French, and its French listing describes an international food library of more than 27 million items. Snap It photo logging, voice logging and the barcode scanner are Premium. Its French purchase list runs from €9.99 to €85.99 with mixed plan names, so check the annual price in the app.

7. Cal AI: best for photo-only simplicity

Cal AI declares French among 15 languages and is built around snapping a photo. Its French in-app purchases run from €2.99 to €44.99 without labelled billing periods. In our testing it logs a scan before you review it. Our Callie vs Cal AI page has the head-to-head.

8. Cronometer: best for micronutrients, if English is fine

Cronometer's listing describes more than 1.1 million verified foods and photo and voice logging in Gold, and the free version includes the barcode scanner. Its store text is translated into French, but the listing declares English as its only interface language. Gold was €69.99 a year on the French store.

9. Fitia: not an option in France yet

Fitia's listing declares English and Spanish only, and Apple's lookup returned no Fitia listing on the French storefront on October 9, 2026. It is a strong app for Spanish speakers, covered in our Spanish roundup.

Why photo logging matters for French home cooking

Food databases are good at packaged goods with a barcode. They are weaker on home cooking: a pot-au-feu, a quiche from the local boulangerie or a salade composée rarely matches a single entry. A camera doesn't need the dish's name. It estimates from what is on the plate.

Photo estimates are weakest on sauces, gratins and anything with hidden butter or cream, which is a lot of French cooking. That is why we think a review step before saving matters here. Our multilingual calorie tracker comparison goes deeper on database coverage across languages.

Scan three products from your own cupboard

During the trial, scan three French products you buy every week, such as a yaourt, a baguette sandwich and a ready meal. If the scanner misses them or shows English names, you will be typing them by hand every day.

When another app is the better choice

  • Pick Yazio if the lowest euro price matters most. Its 12-month plans are often below €39.99, and its packaged-food database is larger than ours.
  • Pick Foodvisor if you want a Paris-built app with photo, voice and barcode logging and a programme designed by nutrition experts.
  • Pick FatSecret if you want to start without a subscription and use a French food site.
  • Pick MyFitnessPal if you want the largest community and don't mind paying for barcode scanning.
  • Pick Cronometer if you track vitamins and minerals closely and are comfortable with an English interface.
