- question: "What is the best calorie counting app in Arabic?" answer: "For an Arabic interface with right-to-left layout, an AI coach that replies in Arabic, and photo, voice and text logging, Callie is our pick at AED 99.99 a year in the UAE. If you want an Arabic-first app with home workouts and step counting, Rashaqa is the most established, with over 60,000 ratings in Saudi Arabia. For the deepest country-specific food database, FatSecret is the strongest option and supports Arabic."
- question: "Does MyFitnessPal support Arabic?" answer: "No. MyFitnessPal's UAE App Store listing declares 19 languages, and Arabic is not one of them, as of October 1, 2026. Its 20.5 million-food database is large but concentrated on US packaged goods and restaurant chains."
- question: "Does Cal AI work in Arabic?" answer: "Cal AI's App Store listing now includes Arabic among its 15 languages. We have not verified how complete its right-to-left layout is. In our testing, Cal AI adds a scanned meal to your day before you can review it, which matters for mixed Arabic dishes where photo estimates go wrong most often."
- question: "Which calorie app recognizes Gulf and Arabic food?" answer: "Mirān's App Store listing says its photo scanner analyzes Saudi food. FatSecret says its database is customized for each country's foods and brands. Callie and Cal AI estimate from the photo itself, so they don't depend on the dish's name. None of these apps publish an accuracy figure for Arabic dishes specifically."
- question: "How much does a calorie app cost in the UAE?" answer: "Callie costs AED 99.99 a year. On the UAE App Store on October 1, 2026, MyFitnessPal Premium and Rashaqa annual plans were listed at AED 184.99, Lifesum at AED 164.99 to AED 192.99, FatSecret at AED 146.99 to AED 224.99, and Mirān at AED 129.99 with discounted plans from AED 69.99. Yazio's 12-month plans ranged from AED 69.99 to AED 239.99, so Yazio can cost less than Callie."
- question: "Is there a free calorie app in Arabic?" answer: "FatSecret describes itself as free and supports Arabic, with paid premium plans on top. Callie is not free. You get 3 AI logs to try it, then it costs AED 99.99 a year."
Callie is our app, and it is one of the nine compared here. We checked every other app's App Store listing ourselves on October 1, 2026, and each one gets the category it is best at.
The 30-second answer
The best calorie counting app in Arabic for most people is Callie: AI Calorie Tracker, at AED 99.99 a year in the UAE. Its interface is in Arabic with a full right-to-left layout, its AI coach replies in Arabic, and it logs by photo, voice or text with a review screen before anything is saved. If you want an Arabic-first app with workouts and a step counter, pick Rashaqa. If you want a large country-specific food database with Arabic support, pick FatSecret. If you mostly eat Saudi dishes and want an AI workout coach, try Mirān.
What "supports Arabic" should mean
A calorie app can list Arabic and still be hard to use in it. We judged each app on four things:
- Interface language and right-to-left layout. Is Arabic in the app at all, and does the layout mirror correctly, or do numbers and buttons end up on the wrong side?
- Arabic food coverage. Can it handle kabsa, machboos, mandi, harees, foul or a plate of mixed iftar dishes?
- Arabic input. Can you type or speak "صحن كبسة دجاج" and get a sensible entry, or must you search in English?
- Gulf pricing. What does the annual plan cost on the UAE App Store?
For the interface, we used the language list each app declares on the App Store (the languageCodesISO2A field in Apple's lookup API, UAE storefront). Callie is the exception. Its App Store listing currently declares English only, although the app itself ships an Arabic interface. That is a gap in our listing, and we are telling you so that you don't find it yourself.

The apps, one by one
1. Callie: best for Arabic interface plus an AI coach in Arabic
Callie's interface is available in six languages, including Arabic with a full right-to-left layout. The AI coach replies in Arabic, so you can ask about your remaining protein or your week's average and read the answer in your own language. You can log by photo, voice or text. Photo scans are never logged automatically: you see the foods, portions, calories and macros on an edit screen and correct them first. That matters for kabsa or mandi, where rice hides the oil and meat portion.
What we don't do well: our food database is smaller than MyFitnessPal's, and our App Store listing doesn't yet declare Arabic. Our voice test included an Arabic-English mixed phrase, not a full Arabic benchmark (test details).
Price: free download with 3 AI logs to try it, then AED 99.99 a year, AED 59.99 a month or AED 19.99 a week in the UAE.
2. FatSecret: best food database for the region
FatSecret supports 23 languages including Arabic, and its listing says the app is "customised for each country's foods and brands." That is the strongest database claim in this list for Gulf shoppers. It includes photo recognition, a barcode scanner and Apple Health sync, and describes itself as free, with paid plans listed from AED 146.99 to AED 224.99 a year. We didn't verify how polished its right-to-left screens are.
3. Rashaqa (رشاقة): best Arabic-first all-in-one app
Rashaqa is built for Arabic speakers and has 60,458 ratings (4.5) on the Saudi App Store, the largest following of any Arabic-first app we found. Its listing covers a calorie tracker with a "Calories Scanner," over 400 meal plans developed by nutritionists, home workouts, a step counter and water reminders. Choose it if you want one app for food, steps and home training. Its annual plan is listed at AED 184.99. We couldn't find voice logging or an AI coach on the listing.
4. Mirān (مِران): best for Saudi food and AI-guided workouts
Mirān's listing describes AI photo scanning that works "even [on] Saudi food," a barcode scanner, diet plans and an AI trainer that corrects your posture through the camera and counts reps. It has 6,950 ratings (4.3) on the Saudi App Store. A 12-month plan is listed at AED 129.99, with discounted plans at AED 89.99 and AED 69.99. Choose it if workouts matter as much as food logging to you.
5. Cal AI: best for photo-only simplicity
Cal AI now lists Arabic among 15 languages. It is fast and focused on photo logging, with a 4.8 rating from about 5,000 UAE reviews. Its UAE in-app purchases run from AED 19.99 to AED 199.99 without labelled billing periods. In our testing it logs a scan before you review it, and MyFitnessPal owns it. Our Callie vs Cal AI page has the head-to-head, including our own 20-meal benchmark (13% mean error for Callie, 17% for Cal AI).
6. MyFitnessPal: best for packaged and restaurant food, in English
MyFitnessPal lists 19 languages, none of them Arabic. Its 20.5 million-food database is the largest here, so it is still useful for imported and chain-restaurant food if you are comfortable in English. Premium is listed at AED 184.99 a year in the UAE.
7. Yazio: best for European products, and sometimes the lowest price
Yazio lists 20 languages and no Arabic. Its strength is European packaged food. Its UAE 12-month plans range from AED 69.99 to AED 239.99, so on a promotion it can cost less than Callie. Our Callie vs Yazio page compares the two in more detail.
8 and 9. Lifesum and Foodvisor: good voice and photo logging, no Arabic
Both apps log by photo, voice, text and barcode, according to their listings, but neither lists Arabic. Lifesum's annual plans run AED 164.99 to AED 192.99. Foodvisor's UAE purchase list mixes plan names and prices, so check in the app.
Why photo logging matters more for Arabic food
Most food databases are indexed in English around US and European supermarket products. A search for "machboos" or "harees" often returns nothing, or a user-submitted entry of unknown quality. A camera doesn't need the dish's name. It estimates from what is on the plate.
Photo estimates are weakest on exactly the dishes common in Gulf homes: rice dishes with hidden oil and meat, stews and stuffed vegetables. That is why we think a review step before saving matters more here than anywhere else. Our multilingual calorie tracker comparison goes deeper on database coverage across languages.
Switch your phone to Arabic and open the app during its trial. Look at the diary, the numbers and the charts. A half-finished right-to-left layout, with numbers reversed or labels cut off, is common and shows up within minutes.
When another app is the better choice
- Pick Rashaqa if you want an established Arabic-first app that combines food, steps and home workouts, and you don't need an AI coach.
- Pick Mirān if you mainly eat Saudi dishes and want AI-guided workouts with posture correction.
- Pick FatSecret if you want the broadest country-specific database with an Arabic interface and you are happy to use it without AI coaching.
- Pick MyFitnessPal if you eat a lot of packaged and chain-restaurant food and use English comfortably.
- Pick Yazio if you find it on a promotion below AED 99.99 and you don't need Arabic.
