The 30-second answer
The best calorie tracker for Android depends on what you want from it. For a free app with deep Health Connect sync and a Wear OS app, pick Cronometer. For the biggest food database, pick MyFitnessPal. For an adaptive calorie target, pick MacroFactor. For AI photo, voice and text logging where you confirm every estimate first, pick Callie: AI Calorie Tracker at $34.99 a year after 3 trial logs. Fitia is the highest rated on Google Play.
What matters on Android specifically
Health Connect. This is Android's shared health database, built into Android 14 and later. It is how a calorie app reads your steps, workouts and weight from Samsung Health, Fitbit or a smart scale, and writes your food back. Google says the older Google Fit APIs are supported only until the end of 2026, so an app that still relies on Google Fit is a risk.
Wear OS. Far fewer calorie apps have a Wear OS app than an Apple Watch app. Of the ten we checked, only two do.
Whether the app is really built for Android. Several popular trackers started on iPhone. All ten apps here are on Google Play, but some Android versions lag in integrations. We checked each listing and help center rather than assuming parity.
The best calorie tracker apps for Android, ranked
1. Callie: best for AI logging you review before it is saved
Callie is our app, and it is on Google Play as com.tracker.callie. You log by photo, voice or a typed sentence, or scan a barcode or a restaurant menu. A photo scan opens a review screen with foods, portions, calories and macros, and nothing is saved until you confirm. It syncs with Health Connect, re-tunes your calorie target every two weeks from your weight trend, and has a GitHub-style streak dashboard, scheduled cheat days that keep your streak, and BMI-matched daily diet plans. The app runs in 6 languages, and the AI coach replies in any language.
Pricing matches iPhone: 3 free AI logs, then $34.99 a year, $14.99 a month or $4.99 a week in the US, with no free plan and no ads. That is less than half of MyFitnessPal Premium ($79.99) or MacroFactor ($71.99).
Where it loses: Callie is much newer on Android. It has 1K+ downloads and only 49 Google Play ratings. Google Play averages ratings per country, so with so few, Callie shows 4.6 in India but 3.4 in the US, the lowest US rating here. Its food database is smaller than MyFitnessPal's. Read the recent reviews before you subscribe.
2. Cronometer: best all-round Android app
Cronometer covers every Android box. Its Health Connect integration syncs more than a dozen biometric types each way, plus food and water. Its Wear OS app shows energy consumed and burned, Nutrition Scores and highlighted nutrients, and sends logging and fasting reminders. It has Android widgets for energy consumed, energy remaining and fasting. The free tier keeps barcode scanning and 84 nutrients, with ads.
Gold adds AI photo and voice logging, with a review step before anything is saved. Gold is $59.99 a year on the US App Store. On Google Play, Cronometer has 4.5 from 59K ratings and 5M+ downloads. See Callie vs Cronometer.
3. MyFitnessPal: best food database, with a Wear OS app
MyFitnessPal has the largest database (its listing claims 20.5M+ foods) and the most installs here, 100M+ on Google Play, rated 4.4 from 2.9M. Its Health Connect sync sends meal summaries, water and cardio. The Wear OS app adds frequent foods, water and quick-add calories from the watch, with 8 complications and 3 tiles. It supports Wear OS 2 and later, but only works when the device language is English.
Barcode scanning, Meal Scan and voice logging are Premium, at $79.99 a year or $19.99 a month on the US App Store, and the free tier shows ads.
4. Fitia: best rated on Google Play
Fitia has the best Google Play rating here, 4.9 from 478K ratings and 10M+ downloads. It builds meal plans and grocery lists around your calorie target, and its listing offers photo, voice and barcode logging plus home screen widgets for calories, steps, sleep, water and your streak. Per its free vs Premium page, the barcode scanner is free, while photo and voice logging and Apple Health or Health Connect sync are Premium. Premium is $59.99 a year on the US App Store. We found no Wear OS app. See Callie vs Fitia.
5. MacroFactor: best adaptive calorie target
MacroFactor sets your targets from your weight trend and intake, and it is the best at this. Its Health Connect integration syncs nutrition and weight. It has AI photo logging and a Describe logger for voice or text, with an editable Plate view. Its watch app is Apple Watch only; there is no Wear OS app. No free tier after the 7-day trial: $71.99 a year. On Google Play it has 4.8 from 17K ratings. See Callie vs MacroFactor.
6. Yazio: best free sync on Android
Yazio lists Health Connect as free for all users and has a setup guide for it. Samsung Health, Fitbit and Garmin sync is part of PRO. It has a database of more than 4 million items, a fasting tracker and 50M+ installs, rated 4.4 from 868K on Google Play. AI photo tracking is PRO, listed at $47.90 a year on the US App Store. See Callie vs Yazio.
7. FatSecret: best free app for budget phones
FatSecret is free, with a barcode scanner and image recognition of foods in the free app. Its Google Play listing names Google Fit, Samsung Health and Fitbit integration and a widget. We couldn't find Health Connect named in its listing. 50M+ installs, rated 4.5 from 547K. Premium adds dietitian meal plans and water tracking.
8. Lose It!: good Health Connect support, shrinking free tier
Lose It!'s Health Connect integration reads steps, workouts, active calories and weight and writes your nutrition, and it has Android widgets. But its help center says the barcode scanner is moving to Premium and only works with the device language set to English. No Wear OS app. Rated 4.6 from 184K on Google Play, with 10M+ installs.
Also on Android: Cal AI and SnapCalorie
Both iPhone-first photo apps are on Google Play. Cal AI has 4.6 from 272K ratings and 1M+ downloads, but its FAQ tells Android users to connect Google Fit, and we found no Health Connect documentation. SnapCalorie has 4.6 from 24K ratings and 500K+ downloads. Its Android listing mentions only Apple HealthKit, and the LiDAR portion measurement it advertises is an iPhone Pro feature. See best Cal AI alternatives and Callie vs SnapCalorie.

When another app is the better choice
- You want to log from a Wear OS watch. Cronometer or MyFitnessPal are the only options here.
- You want a free app. Cronometer, FatSecret or Yazio. Callie is not free after 3 AI logs.
- You want a track record on Android. Callie has 49 Google Play ratings. Cronometer, MyFitnessPal, Fitia and FatSecret each have tens or hundreds of thousands.
- You mostly eat packaged food. A barcode scanner with a big database is more accurate than any photo estimate. See our barcode scanner guide.
- You want the most accurate adaptive target. MacroFactor.
Still unsure? Which calorie tracker gives one pick per kind of user.
Open Settings, then Security and privacy, then Privacy, then Health Connect, and review App permissions. If two food apps both write nutrition, your totals double. Leave write access on for the one you log in.
