  • question: "Is Fitia good?" answer: "Yes. Fitia was named the best AI calorie counter by both Fortune and Garage Gym Reviews in roundups updated September 15, 2026, and it is rated 4.9 from about 22,000 ratings on the US App Store. Its strengths are meal plans built around your calorie target, automatic grocery lists, and a food database with strong coverage of Latin American and Spanish foods. The trade-off is that its AI features (photo and voice logging, meal plans, the coach) are Premium, and reviewers note frequent upgrade prompts in the free version."
  • question: "Is Fitia free?" answer: "Partly. Fitia's free plan includes calorie and macro targets, text logging, the barcode scanner and weight tracking, for up to 4 meals a day. Callie has no permanently free tier: it gives you 3 AI logs to try, then costs $34.99 a year."
  • question: "How much does Fitia Premium cost?" answer: "On the US App Store in September 2026, Fitia Premium is $59.99 for 12 months, $19.99 for one month, $35.99 for six months and $23.99 for three months, with a family plan at $89.99 a year. Some discounted 12-month prices ($53.99, $58.99) also appear. Callie is $34.99 a year, $14.99 a month or $4.99 a week in the US, and €39.99 a year in the eurozone."
  • question: "What is the best Fitia alternative?" answer: "It depends on why you're leaving. If Premium's $59.99 a year is the problem and you mainly want AI photo, voice and text logging, Callie costs $34.99 a year. If you want a free manual tracker with deep micronutrient data, look at Cronometer. If you want a large English-language packaged-food database, MyFitnessPal. If you love Fitia's weekly meal plans and grocery lists, there isn't a close replacement, and staying may be the right call."
  • question: "Does Fitia work in Spanish?" answer: "Yes, and this is where it is strongest. The App Store lists English and Spanish, and the company, founded in Peru in 2019, says its core markets are Mexico, Spain, Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Peru. Callie also runs fully in Spanish, plus French, German, Arabic, Japanese and English."
  • question: "Can I switch from Fitia to Callie?" answer: "Yes. Note your weight, height and goal from Fitia, install Callie, and complete the personalization flow, which takes about a minute. Past meal logs don't transfer between trackers, but Callie's adaptive target re-tunes from your weight trend every two weeks, so you won't lose much."

Callie is our app. Read this with that in mind. Fitia is one of the best calorie apps on the market right now, and we've tried to show exactly where it beats us.

The 30-second answer

Fitia is good. Fortune and Garage Gym Reviews both picked it as the best AI calorie counter in their 2026 roundups, and it has a free tier Callie doesn't match. Its AI features cost $59.99 a year, though. Callie is the Fitia alternative for people who want photo, voice and text logging for $34.99 a year, a review screen before any photo is logged, an app in six languages including Arabic, and habit tools (a streak dashboard and cheat days that keep your streak). If you mainly want weekly meal plans with a grocery list, stay with Fitia.

Callie's annual plan costs $25 less than Fitia Premium. That gap is the whole reason some people switch. But Fitia's free tier is a real free tier, and Callie's three logs are only a trial. If you're happy to type or scan barcodes and eat four meals or fewer a day, Fitia costs you nothing, and Callie can't say that.

Is Fitia good? What the reviewers say

Fitia comes from Nutrition Technologies, a company founded in Peru in 2019. It went through Y Combinator in 2021 and reported more than 10 million users as of June 2026. Its core markets are Mexico, Spain, Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Peru, and it's now pushing into the US.

The 2026 reviews are positive:

  • Fortune (updated September 15, 2026) named Fitia "Best with AI." Pros it listed were free calorie, macro and weight tracking, AI photo logging and personalized meal plans. Its cons were "frequent upgrade prompts" and "advanced features require Premium."
  • Garage Gym Reviews (updated September 15, 2026) named it "Best AI Calorie Counter App." It praised the meal plans that adapt to your goals and the speak-to-track voice logging, and noted that "food database strength varies by region."
  • App Store: 4.9 stars from about 22,000 US ratings as of September 28, 2026.

We agree with the praise. Fitia's meal planning goes further than ours. You get a full plan built to your calorie target, recipes designed by nutritionists, and a weekly grocery list created automatically from that plan. If you want an app to decide what you eat this week, Fitia does that better than Callie.

Head-to-head

What the free tier actually gets you

Fitia's free plan covers text logging and the barcode scanner, capped at four meals a day. You also get calorie and macro targets and weight tracking. Everything that saves typing sits behind Premium: photo logging, voice logging and "Create Foods with AI." The same goes for meal plans, the coach, fasting tracking, health-app sync and removing ads.

Callie has no free plan. Photo, voice and text logging, the barcode scanner, macros and the coach all need a subscription after three AI logs. Three logs are enough to see whether you like the flow. They won't carry you through a week.

So the real choice is between free manual logging in Fitia and paid AI logging in either app. If you pay for AI logging, Callie costs $34.99 a year and Fitia costs $59.99.

Photo logging and the review step

Both apps estimate calories from a photo. In Callie, a photo scan is never logged automatically. You see the detected foods, portions, calories and macros, you fix anything wrong (the oil it missed, a portion of rice that's too small), and only then do you confirm. Callie also reads the depth and EXIF metadata saved with the photo to help size portions, so a screenshot gives a rougher estimate than a photo taken in the app.

Fitia's help page and store listing don't say whether photo results go through a review screen before they're saved, so we've marked that "Not listed" rather than guess. Try it yourself during Fitia's Premium trial.

This matters because every photo-based tracker, ours included, misses by some margin on mixed dishes. In our own 20-meal test, Callie's mean absolute error was 13% against Cal AI's 17% (method and results). We haven't tested Fitia, so we're not quoting a number for it. What you can control is whether you see the error before it goes into your daily total.

Meal plans: weekly menus vs a daily plan

The two apps handle plans differently.

  • Fitia builds a meal plan around your calories, macros, preferences and schedule, pulls in its nutritionists' recipes, and turns the week into a shopping list. It's a strong option for meal prep.
  • Callie gives you a daily plan based on your BMI. Choose keto, intermittent fasting, a calorie cut, balanced or custom, and each day Callie suggests meals and exercises that account for your weight, fitness level and allergies. There's no grocery list.

If shopping and batch cooking are how you stay on plan, pick Fitia. If you'd rather get today's suggestions and log whatever you actually end up eating, Callie's approach is lighter.

Languages

Fitia's App Store listing names two languages, English and Spanish. It's clearly built by and for Spanish speakers. Its food database is strongest on Latin American and Spanish dishes, which is where Garage Gym Reviews' comment about regional database strength comes from.

Callie's app runs in six languages: English, French, Spanish, German, Arabic (with right-to-left layout) and Japanese. The AI coach replies in whatever language you write in. For Spanish alone, the two apps are about even, and Fitia's local food coverage may give it the edge. For a household that switches between Arabic and French, or someone living in Germany, Callie covers more ground. There's more on this in our multilingual calorie tracker roundup.

Habits: streaks and cheat days

Neither of these features appears on Fitia's listing or help page.

  • Streak dashboard. Callie shows your logged days as a GitHub-style grid of green squares, with gaps where you missed a day and a longest-streak counter.
  • Scheduled cheat days. Plan a birthday dinner or a holiday in advance, and your streak survives it. On a 10-week cut, keeping six weeks of streak intact after one planned meal is what keeps many people logging.

Fitia's answer to motivation is Fitia Teams, which runs challenges with friends, family or coworkers. That works better if you like accountability to other people. Callie's tools are private.

Platforms

Fitia has an Apple Watch app, and Callie doesn't. Both apps run on iPhone and Android. Callie requires iOS 18.2 or later and Fitia iOS 16. Callie has no web app.

When Fitia is the better choice

Choose Fitia if any of these fit:

  1. You want to pay nothing and don't mind typing or scanning barcodes. Fitia's free tier is real. Callie has none.
  2. You want full meal plans with a grocery list. This is Fitia's best feature, and we don't offer a grocery list.
  3. You eat mostly Latin American or Spanish food and want a database built around it.
  4. You like team challenges with friends or coworkers.
  5. You want logging on Apple Watch.
  6. You need a family plan. Fitia's costs $89.99 a year, and Callie doesn't sell one.

When Callie is the better choice

Choose Callie if you're paying for AI logging anyway and want it for $34.99 a year instead of $59.99. It also fits if you want to review and correct every photo estimate before it's logged, need the app in French, German, Arabic or Japanese, or want a streak dashboard and cheat days that don't break your streak. Our tracker quiz can help if you're still unsure.

How to switch from Fitia to Callie

  1. In Fitia, write down your current weight, height, goal and daily calorie target.
  2. Install Callie from the App Store or Google Play.
  3. Complete the one-minute personalization and pick your plan (keto, IF, calorie cut, balanced or custom).
  4. Log your next meal by photo, voice or text using your three trial logs.
  5. If your Fitia Premium is paid up, keep both until it runs out. A week of logging in each will tell you which one you'll stick with.

Meal history doesn't carry over between trackers. Callie re-tunes your target every two weeks from your weight trend, so it catches up quickly. See pricing for your region.
