The 30-second answer
Cal AI's FAQ says you can't cancel from inside the app. Cancel where you paid:
- iPhone (App Store): Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions, then Cal AI, then Cancel Subscription.
- Android (Google Play): Google Play, then your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then Cal AI, then Cancel.
- Web checkout: go to calai.app/manage-subscription and enter the email you subscribed with, or email [email protected].
To avoid the first charge on a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Deleting the app doesn't cancel anything.
First, work out where you paid
Cal AI's FAQ says subscriptions are tied to the platform you bought them on, and that your receipt email will say Apple, Google or Cal AI. That decides where you cancel and who handles a refund.
The web option exists because of Cal AI's history. Until April 2026, Cal AI sold some subscriptions through its own Stripe-based checkout instead of Apple's in-app purchase. Apple told TechCrunch it removed the app that month over that checkout and how it presented pricing and auto-renewal. The app was restored after the developer made fixes. If you signed up through a web checkout, your subscription is billed by Cal AI, not by Apple or Google, and it won't appear in your phone's subscription settings.
Cancel Cal AI on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select Cal AI.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. You may need to scroll to find it.
Apple says that if there's no Cancel button and you see an expiration message in red, the subscription is already cancelled.
Cancel Cal AI on Android
- Open Google Play.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Select Cal AI.
- Tap Cancel and follow the prompts.
Google says you keep access until the end of the billing period you already paid for. Uninstalling the app doesn't cancel the subscription.
Cancel a Cal AI web subscription
- Go to calai.app/manage-subscription.
- Enter the email address you used when you subscribed and tap Send.
- Check that inbox and follow Cal AI's instructions to cancel.
If that doesn't work, email [email protected], the support address on Cal AI's FAQ. Include the email you subscribed with and the date of the charge.
Cancelling a Cal AI free trial
A trial is cancelled the same way as a paid subscription. What matters is timing.
- Apple's guidance is to cancel a trial "at least 24 hours before the trial ends" if you don't want it to renew.
- Cal AI's terms of use say subscriptions "automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends."
Check the renewal date in your subscription settings the day you start the trial, and cancel the same day if you're only testing the app.
Cal AI's FAQ says it plainly: deleting the app does not cancel your subscription, and you'll keep being charged until you cancel. Cancel first, then delete.
How to get a Cal AI refund
Cal AI's FAQ says refunds depend on where you bought the subscription: Apple handles App Store refunds, Google handles Google Play refunds, and Cal AI handles purchases made directly with it.
Apple (App Store purchases)
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in.
- Tap I'd like to, then Request a refund.
- Choose a reason and tap Next.
- Select the Cal AI subscription and tap Submit.
Apple says to expect an update within 24 to 48 hours. Eligibility varies by country or region.
Google Play
- On play.google.com, click your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Budget and order history.
- Find the Cal AI charge and click Report a problem.
- Choose the option that describes your situation and submit.
Google says a purchase made within the last 48 hours may be refundable through Play, and that after 48 hours you should contact the developer. Its refund policy also says past subscription periods generally can't be refunded, with some exceptions.
Web checkout
Email [email protected] with your account email and the charge date. The FAQ says, "Bought directly through CalAI? Email us and we'll sort it out."
Before you go: save your history
Cal AI's FAQ says your data is stored in the cloud, so uninstalling the app doesn't delete it as long as you log back in with the same account. The FAQ also mentions a PDF export. If you plan to switch apps, write down your current weight, goal and calorie target and save your progress. The FAQ doesn't describe a spreadsheet export, so plan to re-enter your regular meals in the new app.
Cancelling MyFitnessPal too?
MyFitnessPal owns Cal AI, but the two subscriptions are separate. Cancelling one doesn't cancel the other. If you pay for both, see how to cancel MyFitnessPal Premium.
When keeping Cal AI makes sense
If you only log by photo and you're happy with how it works, Cal AI is cheaper than Callie, and since the acquisition it has MyFitnessPal's larger food database behind it. Cancelling makes the most sense if you want to check estimates before they're saved, want voice or text logging, or want an app that isn't owned by MyFitnessPal.
What to use instead
If you liked logging meals by photo but want to check the estimate before it counts, Callie is our app. It logs by photo, voice or text and shows every photo estimate on a review screen, where you can correct foods and portions before anything is saved. It also has a streak dashboard, cheat days you schedule that don't break your streak, and daily diet plans matched to your BMI and goal.
Callie isn't cheaper than Cal AI. Cal AI's US App Store in-app purchases top out at $29.99. Callie gives you 3 AI logs to try, then costs $34.99 a year. It isn't owned by MyFitnessPal.
If you want to pay nothing, SnapCalorie gives 3 AI logs a day free, and Cronometer and FatSecret have large free tiers without AI photo logging.
