Cheapest AI Calorie Trackers in 2026: 9 Apps Ranked by Yearly Price
Which AI calorie tracker costs the least in 2026? Nine photo and voice logging apps ranked by the yearly price of the plan that unlocks AI logging on the US App Store, with price per month, free allowances and euro notes.
Key takeaways
- On standard US App Store prices, Cal AI costs the least. Its in-app purchases top out at $29.99 (checked October 9, 2026), though the listing does not label which one is yearly.
- Yazio PRO's standard price is $47.90 a year, but its $23.90 annual offer, when the app shows it, is the lowest yearly price on this list. In euros, Yazio offers are often below €39.99.
- Callie is $34.99 a year ($2.92 a month), the second-lowest standard price here, and the lowest of the apps where we have confirmed a review screen before a photo scan is saved (Callie, Cronometer Gold at $59.99, MacroFactor at $71.99).
- MyFitnessPal Premium ($79.99) and SnapCalorie Premium ($149) are the most expensive ways to get AI logging. Callie costs less than half of MyFitnessPal Premium.
- For no money at all, SnapCalorie gives 3 AI logs per day, and ChatGPT or Gemini will estimate a meal photo for free but keep no diary. Callie has no free plan: 3 trial logs, then a subscription.
Callie is our app, and it is one of the nine apps ranked here. It does not come first on price, and we say so. Every US price below was checked on the US App Store between September 28 and October 9, 2026, and the full source list is at the bottom.
The 30-second answer
On standard US App Store prices, Cal AI costs the least: its in-app purchases top out at $29.99, although the listing doesn't say which one is the yearly plan. Yazio PRO lists at $47.90 a year but drops to $23.90 when its annual offer is running. Callie is $34.99 a year ($2.92 a month), the second-lowest standard price here, and the lowest of the apps where we have confirmed a review screen before a photo is saved. If you want to pay nothing, SnapCalorie gives 3 AI logs per day, and a chatbot like ChatGPT can estimate a photo for free without keeping a diary.
How we ranked them
We looked only at apps that log food by photo or voice with AI. For each one we took the yearly price of the plan that unlocks AI logging on the US App Store, then divided by 12 for the monthly cost. Promotions are noted but don't set the rank, because you can't count on seeing them. We left out star ratings, review counts and download numbers on purpose.
Two caveats. Several listings, including Cal AI's and Lose It!'s, show a list of in-app purchases without saying which is weekly, monthly or yearly. And prices change often, so treat this as a snapshot from early October 2026.
AI calorie trackers ranked by yearly price
1. Cal AI: lowest standard listed price
Cal AI's US listing shows in-app purchases of $0.99 (a streak restore) and "Unlimited" plans at $2.99, $5.99, $9.99, $19.99 and $29.99, checked on October 9, 2026. None of them is labelled by period, so you only see what you'll pay in the app's own paywall. If $29.99 is the yearly plan, that works out to about $2.50 a month. There is no free plan, and scan results need a subscription. In our testing Cal AI adds a scanned meal to your day straight away and you correct it afterward. Its listing doesn't describe voice logging. Cal AI is owned by MyFitnessPal since a deal that closed in December 2025. More in Callie vs Cal AI.
2. Callie: $34.99 a year, lowest price with a confirmed review step
Callie is our app. It costs $34.99 a year, $14.99 a month or $4.99 a week in the US, €39.99 a year in the eurozone and AED 99.99 in the UAE. You get 3 AI logs to try it, then you need a subscription. There is no free plan and no ads.
Here is what the $34.99 pays for:
- Review before save. Every photo scan opens a screen with foods, portions, calories and macros. Nothing is logged until you confirm.
- Photo, voice and text logging, plus a barcode scanner and a restaurant-menu scanner.
- Depth-aware portion estimates from the depth and camera metadata stored in the original photo.
- A calorie target that re-tunes every 2 weeks from your weight trend.
- A home screen streak widget on iPhone and Android, plus a GitHub-style streak dashboard and scheduled cheat days that keep your streak.
- Daily diet plans matched to your BMI, Apple Health and Health Connect sync, and macro, keto and fasting tracking.
- 6 app languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Arabic and Japanese) and an AI coach that replies in any language.
In our own 20-meal kitchen-scale test, Callie averaged 13% error and Cal AI 17%. That is our test, not an independent one, and the method is on the Callie vs Cal AI page.
Where Callie loses on price: Cal AI's listed prices are lower, and Yazio's offers are lower in both dollars and euros. Callie costs less than half of MyFitnessPal Premium ($79.99) or MacroFactor ($71.99), and less than Cronometer Gold ($59.99), Fitia ($59.99) and SnapCalorie Premium ($149).
3. Lose It! Premium: $39.99 to $79.99, with a lifetime option
Lose It!'s US listing on October 9, 2026 shows "Premium Features" at $39.99 and Premium entries up to $79.99, plus lifetime purchases at $49.99 and $59.99. The listing names photo meal logging, AI voice logging and the barcode scanner as Premium features. On the yearly plan that is $3.33 to $6.67 a month. It is the only app here you can buy once, which makes it the cheapest over several years if you catch the lifetime price. The free tier covers basic manual logging.
4. Yazio PRO: $47.90 a year, often much less on offer
Yazio PRO's US listing shows 12-month purchases at $23.90 and $47.90, a 3-month plan at $23.99 and a semi-annual plan at $34.99 (October 9, 2026). At the standard $47.90 it is $3.99 a month. At $23.90 it is $1.99 a month, the lowest yearly price we found, but only when the app offers it to you. Yazio's help center puts AI photo recognition in PRO, and its US listing now also promotes logging by speaking or typing a meal. The free version is a manual calorie counter with ads. See Callie vs Yazio for euro prices by country.
5. Cronometer Gold: $59.99 a year, cheapest way to get lab-grade nutrient data with AI
Gold is $59.99 a year ($5.00 a month) or $10.99 a month. Photo logging launched in September 2025 as a Gold feature with a review step before foods reach your diary, and Gold also adds voice logging. Cronometer's free tier is the best on this list: 84 nutrients and a barcode scanner, with ads, but no AI photo logging.
6. Fitia Premium: $59.99 a year
Fitia Premium is $59.99 a year ($5.00 a month) or $19.99 a month. Its help center puts photo and voice logging in Premium. The free tier allows text and barcode logging for up to 4 meals a day. Fitia's strength is meal plans that turn into grocery lists.
7. MacroFactor: $71.99 a year
MacroFactor is $71.99 a year ($6.00 a month) or $11.99 a month, with a free trial and no free tier. Its AI logging takes a photo, or a description by voice or text, and puts the result in an editable Plate view. Its help docs say nothing is saved until you tap Log Foods. You pay more for the best adaptive calorie algorithm we know of.
8. MyFitnessPal Premium: $79.99 a year
Premium is $79.99 a year ($6.67 a month) or $19.99 a month. Meal Scan, voice logging and the barcode scanner are all Premium. The free tier still has the largest food database in the category, with ads and manual logging only.
9. SnapCalorie Premium: $149 a year, but the best free allowance
SnapCalorie's annual Premium is $149.00 ($12.42 a month), and its monthly plan is $19.99 (October 9, 2026). That makes it the most expensive paid option here. It is also the most useful one if you won't pay: its FAQ says it is free for up to 3 AI logs per day. On Pro iPhones it uses LiDAR to measure food volume, and it takes voice notes. Edits happen after the log.

What about free?
No app we checked gives unlimited AI logging for free. Here is what you can get without paying:
- SnapCalorie: 3 AI logs per day, plus unlimited manual and barcode entries, per its FAQ. The best free AI allowance we found.
- Cronometer: the strongest free tier overall, with 84 nutrients and a barcode scanner, but no photo logging.
- MyFitnessPal, Lose It! and Yazio: free manual diaries. Photo logging is paid in all three, and MyFitnessPal's barcode scanner has been Premium since October 2022.
- Fitia: text and barcode logging for up to 4 meals a day.
- Callie: 3 AI logs once, to try it. After that it is a subscription. There is no free plan.
- ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude: any of them will estimate calories from a meal photo at no charge. Published tests put photo-only estimates at roughly 30% to 36% error, and they don't keep a dated diary, running totals or a calorie target. We cover the studies in Can ChatGPT count calories?
A trial that converts to a yearly plan bills the full year on the day it ends. If you're only testing, set a reminder a day before and cancel in your App Store or Google Play subscriptions.
Prices outside the US
Apple sets prices for each country, so the ranking can change where you live.
- Eurozone: Callie is €39.99 a year, €17.99 a month or €5.99 a week. Euro prices include VAT, so they're higher than the US price converted. Yazio is often cheaper in euros: in September 2026 the German App Store listed 12-month PRO at €23.90, €35.90 and €83.90, the French store at €11.90 to €59.90, and the Spanish store at €14.99 to €47.90.
- UAE: Callie is AED 99.99 a year, AED 59.99 a month or AED 19.99 a week. We haven't checked every competitor in the UAE store, so compare the price your store shows.
When another app is the better choice
- You want the lowest price and only log by photo. Cal AI's listed prices are lower than Callie's. If auto-logging doesn't bother you, it's the budget pick.
- You can get a Yazio offer. At $23.90 or €23.90 a year, Yazio PRO costs less than Callie, and it's strong for European packaged food and fasting.
- You want to pay nothing. Use SnapCalorie's 3 daily AI logs or Cronometer's free tier. Callie has no free plan.
- You want to pay once. Lose It!'s lifetime Premium at $49.99 or $59.99 beats any subscription over two years or more.
- You care about micronutrients. Cronometer Gold costs more than Callie but tracks far more nutrients.
- You train seriously. MacroFactor's adaptive algorithm is worth its higher price to many lifters.
Pick Callie if you want photo, voice and text logging with every photo scan reviewed before it is saved, for $34.99 a year. Still undecided? Our tracker guide gives one pick per kind of user, and the best Cal AI alternatives ranks apps by what each does best.
