Best Lose It! Alternatives in 2026: 7 Apps Like Lose It! Compared
The best Lose It! alternatives in September 2026, ranked by what each app is best at. US App Store prices, which apps keep barcode and photo logging free, and when to stay with Lose It!.
Key takeaways
- Lose It! keeps calorie logging free but puts Snap It photo logging, AI voice logging, the barcode scanner, macros and fasting tracking in Premium. That split is the most common reason people look for an alternative.
- Lose It! Premium's US App Store in-app purchases run from $9.99 to $79.99, with lifetime purchases at $49.99 and $59.99, as of September 28, 2026. It is still the only major tracker we found that sells a lifetime licence.
- For free barcode scanning, pick Cronometer, MyFitnessPal or FatSecret. FatSecret's listing also includes photo recognition in the free app.
- For AI photo and voice logging where you confirm each estimate before it is saved, Callie costs $34.99 a year. MacroFactor has the best adaptive calorie target, at $71.99 a year.
- Stay with Lose It! if you already own a lifetime licence, or you use its iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Vision Pro or web apps. Few alternatives cover that many surfaces.

If you want AI photo and voice logging with a review step before anything is saved, Callie does that for $34.99 a year. If you want barcode scanning without paying, Cronometer, MyFitnessPal and FatSecret all keep it free. If you want a calorie target that adjusts to your weight trend, MacroFactor has the best version. - question: "What apps are like Lose It!?" answer: "The closest apps in shape are MyFitnessPal, FatSecret and Yazio: a food diary, a calorie goal from your weight target, a barcode scanner and a large food database. Cronometer is similar but more detailed on micronutrients. Callie and Cal AI are AI-first trackers that log from photos, and Callie also logs from voice and text."
- question: "Is Lose It! better than MyFitnessPal?" answer: "For paid users who want a simpler app, often yes. Lose It! is cleaner, sells a lifetime licence and its annual Premium starts lower than MyFitnessPal Premium's $79.99. - question: "Is there a free alternative to Lose It!?" answer: "Yes. Cronometer's free tier includes barcode scanning and 80-plus nutrients. FatSecret's free app includes a barcode scanner and image recognition of foods, and keeps meal plans for Premium. MyFitnessPal's free tier keeps single-item barcode scanning but shows ads. Callie is not free: you get 3 AI logs to try it, then it is $34.99 a year."
- question: "How much is Lose It! Premium in 2026?" answer: "The US App Store lists Lose It! Premium in-app purchases from $9.99 to $79.99, and Lose It! Premium Lifetime at $49.99 and $59.99, as of September 28, 2026. Annual plans appear between $39.99 and $79.99 depending on the offer. Confirm the price in the app before you subscribe."
- question: "Is Lose It! owned by MyFitnessPal?" answer: "No. Lose It! is published by FitNow, Inc. MyFitnessPal owns Cal AI, which it acquired in a deal announced on March 2, 2026, but not Lose It!."
We make Callie, one of the apps on this list. We put it first and explain why, and every other app gets the category it is best at. Prices come from the US App Store on September 28, 2026, and the full source list is at the bottom.
The 30-second answer
The best Lose It! alternative depends on what you miss. For AI photo and voice logging where you confirm the estimate before it is saved, pick Callie: AI Calorie Tracker at $34.99 a year. For free barcode scanning and detailed nutrients, pick Cronometer. For the biggest food database, pick MyFitnessPal. For a calorie target that adjusts to your weight trend, pick MacroFactor. If you already own a Lose It! lifetime licence, you probably shouldn't switch at all.
Why people look for a Lose It! alternative
Lose It! is a good app. It holds a 4.8 rating from 779K ratings on the US App Store and runs on more Apple devices than any other app here. People who leave it usually leave for one of three reasons.
The free tier is thin. Per its App Store listing, the free app covers calorie tracking, plan creation and the community. Snap It photo logging, AI voice logging, the barcode scanner, advanced macro and nutrient tracking, intermittent fasting, meal planning and fitness app syncs are all Premium. We compared the two free tiers in MyFitnessPal vs Lose It!, and MyFitnessPal's is the more capable one.
Pricing is hard to read. The listing shows ten in-app purchases, from $9.99 to $79.99, plus two lifetime entries at $49.99 and $59.99. Which one you see depends on the offer you are shown. Annual Premium appears anywhere from $39.99 to $79.99.
Photo logging commits quickly. In our comparison, Snap It was more automatic about committing its identification than a flow that makes you review first. That matters because photo estimates run low: a 2026 NIH analysis found four popular photo apps underestimated meals by roughly 250 to 345 calories when nobody corrected them.
Language used to be on this list, but Lose It! now lists English plus French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Spanish. It does not list Arabic.
The best Lose It! alternatives, ranked
1. Callie: best for AI logging you review before it is saved
Callie is our app. Here is what it does differently from Lose It!.
- Photo, voice and text logging, plus barcode and restaurant-menu scanning.
- Nothing is auto-logged. A photo scan opens a review screen with foods, portions, calories and macros. You fix what is wrong, then confirm.
- Depth-aware portions from the depth and camera metadata your phone stores in the original photo. Screenshots lose that data.
- An adaptive calorie target that re-tunes every two weeks from your weight trend.
- Habit tools Lose It! doesn't have: a GitHub-style streak dashboard, cheat days you schedule in advance that keep your streak, and BMI-matched daily diet plans (keto, intermittent fasting, calorie cut, balanced or custom) with meals and exercises refreshed each day.
- 6 app languages, including Arabic with a right-to-left layout, and an AI coach that replies in any language.
- Apple Health and Health Connect sync.
Pricing is 3 free AI logs, then $34.99 a year, $14.99 a month or $4.99 a week in the US. There is no free plan and no ads. Callie is less than half of MyFitnessPal Premium ($79.99) or MacroFactor ($71.99), and $5 a year below Lose It!'s lowest listed annual offer ($39.99). Over several years, a Lose It! lifetime licence costs less than Callie.
Where Callie loses: it is a phone app only, with no iPad, Mac, Watch or web app. It has far fewer reviews than Lose It!. And it has no lifetime option. The full head-to-head is on Callie vs Lose It!.
2. MyFitnessPal: best food database
MyFitnessPal has the largest database in the category, over 20 million foods and 380-plus restaurant chains, and its free tier keeps single-item barcode scanning, which Lose It! moved to Premium. The free tier shows ads. Meal Scan photo logging and voice logging are Premium, and scan-a-meal moved behind the paywall in May 2026. Premium is $19.99 a month or $79.99 a year. Rated 4.7 from 2.37M ratings. MyFitnessPal also owns Cal AI.
3. Cronometer: best free tier and most detailed nutrient data
Cronometer's free tier includes barcode scanning and 80-plus nutrients from a lab-verified database, plus Apple Health sync. Photo logging launched on September 8, 2025 and is Gold-only, with a review step before suggestions reach your diary. Gold is $59.99 a year or $10.99 a month. Rated 4.8 from 98.6K ratings. The interface is denser than Lose It!'s, which suits people who like numbers.
4. MacroFactor: best adaptive calorie target
MacroFactor recalculates your target from your weight trend and intake, and it does this better than anything else we have used. Its AI logging takes a photo, or a photo with a description, and puts the result in an editable Plate view; its help docs say nothing is saved until you tap Log Foods. There is no free tier after the trial. It costs $71.99 a year or $11.99 a month. Rated 4.8 from 22.6K ratings.
5. FatSecret: best free app with photo recognition
FatSecret is the closest thing to Lose It! with more left free. Its App Store listing puts the barcode scanner and "image recognition of foods, meals and products" in the free app, and keeps dietitian meal plans, advanced meal planning, extra meal headings and water tracking for Premium. Premium annual plans are listed at $38.99 to $59.99. The app is available in English plus 22 languages, including Arabic. Rated 4.7 from 15K ratings. The design is plainer than Lose It!'s.
6. Yazio: best for intermittent fasting
Yazio pairs a calorie diary with a fasting tracker (16:8, 5:2 and other plans), 2,900-plus recipes and a database of more than 4 million foods. The listing describes logging by voice or a short text, and a barcode scanner. The fasting tracker, meal plans and detailed macro analysis are PRO. PRO is listed at $47.90 a year, with promotions from $23.90. Available in 20 languages. Rated 4.7 from 51K ratings.
7. Cal AI: best photo-only app at a low listed price
Cal AI is built around the camera and does one thing quickly. Its US App Store in-app purchases run from $0.99 to $29.99, which is below Callie and every annual Lose It! offer, though the listing doesn't label the billing periods. In our testing it adds a scanned meal to your day straight away and you correct it afterward. It has been owned by MyFitnessPal since a deal announced on March 2, 2026. Rated 4.8 from 367K ratings. When to stay with Lose It!
Lose It! is the right app for more people than any roundup, including this one, tends to admit. Stay if:
- You own a lifetime licence. At $49.99 or $59.99 once, Lose It! Premium Lifetime costs less than two years of any subscription on this list. Nothing else here sells one.
- You use the Apple ecosystem apps. Lose It! runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac (M1 or later), Apple Watch and Vision Pro, and has a web version at loseit.com. Callie is phone-only, and most alternatives don't cover all of those.
- You want the simplest interface. For a first attempt at calorie counting, Lose It! is cleaner than MyFitnessPal or Cronometer.
- You got an annual offer at $39.99. That is close to Callie's $34.99 and cheaper than MyFitnessPal, Cronometer Gold and MacroFactor.
- You care about track record. 779K ratings at 4.8 stars is hard to argue with.
If none of those apply and the Premium split is what bothers you, one of the apps above is likely a better fit. Our which calorie tracker guide gives one pick per kind of user.
How to switch from Lose It!
- Write down what you want to keep. Note your current weight, goal and calorie budget, and screenshot your weight graph. If you want your full history, check the Lose It! web version for an export option before you cancel.
- Cancel before renewal. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Lose It! and tap Cancel Subscription. On Android, use Google Play, then Payments and subscriptions. A lifetime licence doesn't need cancelling.
- Run both apps for a week. Log in the new app while your Lose It! period runs out. You will know within a week whether it handles what you actually eat.
- Save your regular meals. Re-create your ten most frequent meals as favorites in the first week.
Removing Lose It! from your phone leaves the subscription running. Cancel in Settings first, then delete.
